Jeff Cadle Stories

As the Millenium changed I sent out to my friends a listing of my Top 100 memories of my first Millineum. Jeff played a prominent role in many of the memories. I've included several memories/stories about Jeff in this site for your amusement. Please feel free to email me any stories or memories you have of him and we'll add it to either the Stories or the Blogs page appropriately.

#85 - Where's Jeff? - 1985

Published June 4, 2006 1:54 PM by Phil Parker

In 1985 I was on the UC Davis swim team. Actually I did the 10 week entire preseason and the first meet and then quit. I liked the swimming but the swimmers were jerks. Anyway I hated Saturday practices so I'd get out of them by doing triathlons or lake swims. One weekend I talked Jeff into doing the Berryessa Biathlon as a team with me. It was a Swim/Bike event. I was in my best ever swimming shape and Jeff was on the UCD Bike team. The swim was 1.2 miles (about 2100 yards) in Lake Berryessa. I pushed it hard and came out of the water in 4th place (average around 1:03's per hundred yards for the swim) out of hundreds or thousands of participants and Jeff took over. I felt pretty good about all this, Jeff was a strong biker, I thought we might actually win the darn thing. So I waited for Jeff, and waited and waited.......

People started finishing, the top people, then more people, then women, then out of shape men, then old people....Where was Jeff? Was he dead? Did he crash???

Finally Jeff appears and crosses the finish line. I head over to him and he's literally olive colored. I ask what happened. Apparently a combination of a hangover and the dry dusty conditions led to his having to abandon his bike and vomit repeatedly for a while.

Probably not one of his favorite memories, but it always brings a smile to my face when I think of it!
