Jeff Cadle Stories

As the Millenium changed I sent out to my friends a listing of my Top 100 memories of my first Millineum. Jeff played a prominent role in many of the memories. I've included several memories/stories about Jeff in this site for your amusement. Please feel free to email me any stories or memories you have of him and we'll add it to either the Stories or the Blogs page appropriately.

#77 - Whatever you do don't shoot the ball - 1986

Published June 4, 2006 1:51 PM by Phil Parker

Intramural Hoops, we have a pretty ordinary team, we won some we lost some. One of the games, well the end of one of the games stands out. We were playing a team better than us but we hung in there and with about 15 seconds to go we have the ball and a 1 point lead. We call a timeout, on the floor for us were Jeff, Jim Burns, our RA's boyfriend (no idea his name), Jon VanValkovich and myself.

During the timeout we say one thing "Whatever you do don't shoot the ball! Whatever you do don't shoot the ball. if you get trapped call a timeout but don't shoot the ball" We take the ball inbounds and throw it to Jon at the free throw line extended, two of our opponents converge on him. He panics and heaves up a wild shot, missing badly. The other team gets the rebound and scores.

Fortunately, I hit a jumper with a couple of seconds left in the game from the elbow so we ended up winning, but that's not the point of the story. How can Jon have shot that ball? Everyone in the huddle was screaming "Whatever you do don't shoot!"
