#36 - Dan's Bachelor Party - 1996
Dan the man was getting married to Vita. Dan unlike most people chose to plan his own bachelor party. He set up a golf outing at Real Del Mar. Two days before that Jeff and I flew down. Dan picked us up and we headed to Bajamar (note to Mark, Steve, Zip, Brian, Dan, and Jeff 1 week to Bajamar). We spent the night at Bajamar doing something quite adult. We hung out drinking at a moderate pace, talking about life, smoking stogies and eventually ending up in the hot tub with more beer. We woke up the next morning and played golf in paradise.
We drove from there to Aladdins, the strangest hotel I've ever been to! It was a Moroccan style hotel on the beach near Real Del Mar. When we arrived, we drove through the hotel gates which were guarded by armed guards. There were no other cars there. We checked in and it was as if they didn't know how to check in guests. Like, "what are you doing here?" We went to the rooms and they were very nice, but again saw no people, just a few armed guards (ATA HOTEL). We dropped our stuff off and looked out towards the beach and saw a structure about 1.5 stories high. It was an elevated hot tub. We had time to kill until others arrived so we took a bunch of beer out and sat in the hot tub. Had a great time, looked around and still nobody else was at the hotel, there were about 10 motor homes in the parking lot.
We headed to the bar of the hotel and waited for people to start showing up. Craig, Brent etc. all finally showed up and we drank and watched the Pernell Whittacker/ Julio Ceaser Chavez fight. We then headed out to Papa's and Beer.
At one point Dan's friend Dave was dancing on a speaker, he's a good dancer and was surrounded by women, then Dan's brother jumped up and started dancing with him. The women shoved Dan's brother off the speaker. I talked Craig into climbing the climbing wall. He got about 3 feet off the ground freaked and backed out. I made it to the top. Then others from our group tried it. Jeff went up it like a monkey (another Amazing Power of Jeff?). Dan's brother took a long time. Finally we talked Craig into trying it one more time. He very reluctantly did, but made it this time.
We headed back to the hotel. At some point in the night Jeff, Craig, Dan and I were wandering through the hotel and came upon a large formal dining room set for about 50-60 people. We rearranged all the statues in the room.
The next day we played golf and headed home.
The hotel is now closed, it was seized in a Mexican Drug raid!
