Jeff Cadle Stories

As the Millenium changed I sent out to my friends a listing of my Top 100 memories of my first Millineum. Jeff played a prominent role in many of the memories. I've included several memories/stories about Jeff in this site for your amusement. Please feel free to email me any stories or memories you have of him and we'll add it to either the Stories or the Blogs page appropriately.

#17 - Doughboy Memories - 1996-1999

Published June 4, 2006 1:23 PM by Phil Parker

Many of you do the Doughboy Decathlon every year, some don't, it came about as the culmination of talks that many of us had over the years. I love putting it on, and I think everyone that participates in it has a great time. So here are some of my favorite Doughboy Memories:

  • Every Year - Hanging out beforehand catching up and watching the defending champ eat a jelly donut.
  • The nerves immediately before running the 100 yard dash.
  • 1998 - The look of absolute horror on Jeff's face when the "Gaaaauuuccchoooss, Gaaauuuccchooosss " chant went up at the awards ceremony.
  • Every year the fun and joy of the Pool tournament, as we all relax and down many a beer. And the rivalries and grudge matches are always a joy to behold.
  • 1997 - Phil "The White Kenyan" needing only to beat Jeff in the Mile to claim the overall title decides that 2000 years of track and field competitors obviously overlooked the obvious...Run as Fast as you can. Using the logic "I can take 6 minutes of pain" Phil goes out in sub-6 minute pace. Only to watch as his legs blow up and the entire field passes him in the 2nd half mile. Phil finishes one place behind Jeff and loses the overall title. Incidentally Jeff panicked and went out with Phil and nearly died himself.
  • 1997 - Zip betting Phil and Jeff that he and Chuck will beat them in 2 on 2 hoops after having one too many at the Roundtable Pizza.
  • Every year - the smiling faces on everyone's faces before we begin the 100 and warm up by throwing balls and kicking them
  • Every year - the pain and fatigue following the mile
