#22 - Burglars - 1987
I'm sound asleep laying next to my girlfriend in her apartment at 2AM when the bedroom door is violently thrown open and two men guns drawn, high intensity flashlights beaming into our faces, burst into the room. We grab the covers and pull them up to cover our bodies. The men immediately identify themselves as Police. I think "Holy Cow, her father called the police on me."
The Police ask us to put on our clothes and come into the living room, they have caught two people in the process of burglarizing the apartment and stealing the TV. We throw on our clothes and walk into the living room where the police have the two suspects. Standing there were Jeff and Chi with very scared looks on their faces. The police ask if we know them, despite wanting to say "No" we say "Yes".
The police leave and Jeff and Chi tell us the story. They had started out the night hours ago at Mr. B's (an awesome bar in Davis) and while driving home they were stopped by the police. The police were cool about it since they were only a block from home and told them to get home for the night. Chi and Jeff at first had done so. But they got bored, so they hopped in the car and drove over to my girlfriends apartment complex. They climbed the wall to the apartment balcony and broke in through the patio door. As a joke they decided to steal the TV. They carried the TV out of the apartment, down the stairs and had just stepped onto the grass when lights came bursting on, and the cops yelled "Freeze Police". Jeff did. Chi did not. Chi dropped his side of the TV and ran for it, only to be tackled by a cop after a flight of about 5 feet. When the cops had the two of them together they all noticed these were the same two cops that had stopped them on the way home from Mr. B's. The cops were not amused.
Imagine if my girlfriend and I hadn't been there. Chi and Jeff would have been in jail for burglary for who knows how long.
